Oh New York Times...

I can't tell if these statements are endearing or annoying:

“Speaking of tween heartthrobs, Scott Brown is here,” the president continued. He lauded the new Republican senator from Massachusetts, who posed in an advanced state of dishabille in Cosmopolitan when he was younger, as a “politician in Washington with nothing to hide.”

Una Semana Mas

There's one week left of the semester and I am not looking forward to leaving New York City, my love and my addiction.

The Daily Show as (all-inclusive) Media Critique

In response to Brian Stelter's piece on The Daily Show and Fox News, I though I'd attempt to further my theory that The Daily Show is about much more than political ideologies.

The Commemoration Puzzle

August 2001 - Few cars, bright lights, dark sky, its late night lower Manhattan, and I am riding in my aunts ramshackle vehicle, with my parents and grandma. After a final day of sightseeing in New York, my aunts were making sure we had got our NYC fill before heading home to California. I still remember craning my neck out the car window, unable to see the tops of those gigantic buildings, my grandmas body pushed up against mine, as three generations of Katzer females shared the tiny backseat of my aunt's old sedan. The two towering buildings overwhelmed the night sky and my aunt asked if we wanted to go up. Exhausted and hungry, I replied with that certain confidence that can only be found in an innocent 10-year-old only child, "No..We can go up next time."

It all started with MEATJOY.

Dressed in a black polo and all-american blue jeans, Marvin Taylor looks like your average 49-year-old man. But his studded belt and single ear piercing reflect the rebel inside.

Marvin Taylor is the director of the Fales Library and Special Collections at New York University. Last Thursday, he was visiting the "Downtown Pix" exhibition at NYU’s Grey Gallery.

I Love NY (Grocery Stores)

I am what the average person would call thrifty, my friends call cheap and my grandfather calls Bohemian. This obsession, and its resulting coupon clipping and price scourging come at great conflict with one of my other family passed on traits, a love for food. Blame my six + feet of length, but my consumption patterns and taste bud desires challenge my commitment to the dollar bill.

Fraunces Tavern Closure

History buffs, take note! The 240-year-old Fraunces Tavern isn’t really closed. Even though the restaurant shut down last month amid a flurry of press coverage, the three-story brick landmark building is still open -- to museum visitors.

The main floor restaurant, now hidden behind red velvet curtains, has been open on and off for the past two centuries. The last operators of this dining room filled with dark brown colonial furniture and white tablecloths closed suddenly last month due to "the national economic crisis," according to a press release from Sons of the Revolution, which owns the building.

Holi Holi Holi

So...my title picture is pretty cool, right? Well, it comes from the Hindu religious festival Holi, which happened this week. It's a dream of mine to experience this celebration, and perusing this week's slideshows has been a welcome repast from the stress of midterms and chilly New York temperatures...
