It all started with MEATJOY.

Dressed in a black polo and all-american blue jeans, Marvin Taylor looks like your average 49-year-old man. But his studded belt and single ear piercing reflect the rebel inside.

Marvin Taylor is the director of the Fales Library and Special Collections at New York University. Last Thursday, he was visiting the "Downtown Pix" exhibition at NYU’s Grey Gallery.

I Love NY (Grocery Stores)

I am what the average person would call thrifty, my friends call cheap and my grandfather calls Bohemian. This obsession, and its resulting coupon clipping and price scourging come at great conflict with one of my other family passed on traits, a love for food. Blame my six + feet of length, but my consumption patterns and taste bud desires challenge my commitment to the dollar bill.

Fraunces Tavern Closure

History buffs, take note! The 240-year-old Fraunces Tavern isn’t really closed. Even though the restaurant shut down last month amid a flurry of press coverage, the three-story brick landmark building is still open -- to museum visitors.

The main floor restaurant, now hidden behind red velvet curtains, has been open on and off for the past two centuries. The last operators of this dining room filled with dark brown colonial furniture and white tablecloths closed suddenly last month due to "the national economic crisis," according to a press release from Sons of the Revolution, which owns the building.

So...my title picture is pretty cool, right? Well, it comes from the Hindu religious festival Holi, which happened this week. It's a dream of mine to experience this celebration, and perusing this week's slideshows has been a welcome repast from the stress of midterms and chilly New York temperatures...
